What Wears Down Your Teeth
Teeth are essential for biting and chewing. But they are vulnerable to damage.
When you grind or clench your teeth, it’s referred to as bruxism — and can result in chipped or broken teeth. Factors that trigger bruxism include sleep apnoea, stress, anxiety, medications such as antidepressants, headaches and teeth alignment.
Bruxism can be stopped by wearing a mouth guard or treating a sleep disorder. Also, simply being aware of the grinding or clenching, and practicing relaxation exercises, is helpful.
These also damage teeth: biting down on hard foods, impact cause by accidents or sporting activities, acids from foods and drinks, acid reflux and frequent vomiting may cause enamel erosion and damage to the teeth.
