The Ugly Truth about Your Toothbrush
Toothbrushes can harbor oral microbial organisms whenever they are placed in the mouth. The bacteria and the viruses from the mouth can live on the toothbrush bristles for weeks with the high likelihood of causing infections.
Moreover, toothbrushes must not be sold in sterile packaging implying that a toothbrush may carry bacteria right out of its packaging.
The toothbrush should be kept clean by washing it and thoroughly rinsing it with tap water to remove any debris. In the instances that you have a mouth infection, the toothbrush should be soaked in antibacterial mouthwash.
The toothbrush should then be stored upright in a rack or a cup so that it is aired and dries out properly. Finally, the toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months.
