Soft Drinks Named In Liverpool Tooth Decay Battle
Health officials in Liverpool say that approximately 2,000 children from the city will have had tooth extractions before they reach five years of age. The officials have initiated a campaign to name brands that contain high amounts of sugar targeted at general practitioners, children hospitals and centers.
The recommended daily allowance of sugar for children is five to seven cubes of sugar depending on their age. Some of the leading brands named in the report are Tropicana, Capri-Sin, Lucozade, Ribena and Coca-Cola.
People do not realize the sheer amount of sugar in these drinks from reading the labels. A drink such as a 500 ml bottle of Coca-Cola contains 13.5 cubes of sugar while a similar bottle of Lucozade contains 15.5 cubes of sugar.
