Nutsedge: This Dirty Little Weed May Have Cleaned Up Ancient Teeth
Researchers at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona have used chemical analysis among other techniques to study plaque that was isolated from skeletons found in a 2000 to 9000 year old burial site. They found starch granules in their teeth from a plant called purple nutsedge, which contains antibacterial compounds that help to prevent tooth decay.
