NICE Issues Guidance on Oral Health in Care Homes

The latest guidance from the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) indicates that dentists should provide residents in care homes with necessary treatment as well with preventative help. Home staff are also required to take oral health more seriously and to help residents brush their teeth twice daily.

The majority of home residents have cavities compared to about one-third of people the same age living at home. The British Dental Association (BDA) has endorsed the calls for oral health and access to dental treatments to be given the same priority as general health for all adults in care homes.
