How Sharks Could Aid Human Tooth Regeneration
Sharks lose as many as 30,000 teeth over a lifetime. Interestingly, sharks have the ability to regrow each lost tooth over a period of days or months. Scientists have identified a group of genes that are responsible for the development and lifelong regeneration of teeth in catsharks. The genes led to the formation of dental lamina that drives tooth development and continuous regeneration in the sharks.
