‘Cake Culture’ Fuelling Oral Health and Obesity

Professor Nigel Hunt believes that the ‘cake culture’ at work places could be fueling obesity and oral health issues. He warns of the dangers to oral health posed by celebration of special occasions at work with cakes and other pastries.

The workplace has become the primary site for high sugar intake and it is fueling the current obesity epidemic and the deterioration of oral health. The cake culture is a big challenge for people trying to be healthier by losing weight.

Professor Hunt recommends that people should offer healthy alternatives such as nuts, cheese, and fruits. Responsible employers should change the culture by taking the lead in eliminating the sugary snacks at the workplace.
