A Quarter of Five-Year-Olds in England Have Tooth Decay, Data Shows
Data from Public Health England indicates that 25 percent of five-year- olds commence school already having tooth decay, a condition that is completely preventable.
Even though the figures indicate a decline in the rates of tooth decay, the numbers are still unacceptably high. One in every 40 children requires the removal of the decaying teeth.
Children should be encouraged to brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice every day and to avoid or limit the consumption of sugary foods and drinks. Regular visits to the dentist are also encouraged to ensure that the teeth and mouth are kept healthy.
